Plans are far advanced for the kick off of an Afro-Caribbean movie production to commemorate the Year of Return,2019. The Year of Return is a concept that seeks to bring people of African descent down to Africa to commemorate 400 years of transatlantic slavery. It is a pilgrimage of sorts, to foster reconciliation, brotherhood, economic and investment ties with the motherland.
Accordingly, President Akufo –Addo launched 2019 as the Year of Return to the Continent at the United States National Press Club in Washington DC this October
The film project is being produced by Forreal Joe Osei Mensah, Ghana’s veritable export to Hollywood in collaboration with Step by Step Productions from Barbados, a production company which won
Best Docu drama from the diaspora with the movie “Barrow-Freedom Fighter” at the 2018 African Movie Academy Awards. The project is expected to cast the best from Africa, the Carribeans and America and the film is also expected to be shot on locations in Jamaica, Barbados and Ghana.
Forreal Joe Osei Mensah, a Ghallywood Actor, Producer, Special Effect Makeup heavyweight who transitioned into Hollywood, says he is looking forward very much to this project. He had just returned from Germany, working on a Netflix production which was shot here in Ghana and Germany. Forreal Mensah with 20years of experience whose rise from the Ghanaian film industry to Hollywood six years ago is an inspiration to many; has many Hollywood productions to his credit. He has acted bit roles, and worked largely as a make up and special effects technician on titles such as “Black Sails”, “The Conjuring”,”The Indian Detective” “Maze Runner”. “Dark Tower”,”Suicide Squad” and “The Crown” drama series.
